Advanced Depth Filtration for Industrial Applications
When it comes to handling high solids loading and critical particulate retention, ErtelAlsop Pak® Lenticular Filters stand out as the industry workhorse. As a trusted distributor for top-tier filtration solutions, Purecowater is proud to offer these versatile lenticular cartridges, designed to meet the rigorous demands of pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and chemical processing industries.
The “Pak” concept revolutionizes traditional plate and frame filtration by enclosing the media in a convenient, sealed lenticular module. This design prevents leakage, simplifies changeouts, and ensures a closed-loop system for sanitary processing.

What is a Lenticular Filter?
A lenticular filter cartridge, often called a module or “stack,” consists of individual cells stacked on a central core. Each cell is constructed from two discs of depth filter media, sealed at the edges. This “double convex” lens shape gives the product its name.
Unlike surface filters that trap particles only on the top layer, ErtelAlsop Pak® filters utilize depth filtration. The media provides a complex, tortuous path that traps particles throughout the entire thickness of the sheet. This results in:
- High Solids Holding Capacity: Capable of retaining significantly more contaminants than membrane filters.
- Zeta Potential: Many media grades (like Micro-Media®) possess a positive electrokinetic charge, attracting and locking in negatively charged sub-micron particles (like haze or bacteria) that might otherwise pass through the pores.
- Scalability: Available in 12-inch and 16-inch diameters with varying cell counts (5 to 18 cells) to match flow rate requirements.

Types of ErtelAlsop Pak® Formulations
Different industrial challenges require specialized media formulations. The Pak® series includes several distinct product lines:
1. Zeta-Pak® (The Workhorse)
Incorporating the renowned Micro-Media® (Cellulose/Diatomaceous Earth/resin), the Zeta-Pak is the standard for difficult filtration tasks. It provides excellent haze removal and protection for downstream membrane filters.
Best for: Botanical extracts, beverages, and chemicals.
2. Bio-Pak® (Pharmaceutical Grade)
Designed for critical applications, the Bio-Pak utilizes a Double O-Ring seal to ensure zero bypass. It is manufactured with pharmaceutical-grade media suitable for biologics and high-purity streams.
Best for: Plasma fractionation, vaccines, and culture media.
3. Disc-Pak® (Cellulose Only)
Using AlphaMedia® (100% cellulose), the Disc-Pak is ideal for applications where mineral filter aids (like DE) are not desired. It is excellent for light to medium viscosity liquids such as lubricating oils and dielectric fluids.
4. ZetaDri-Pak® (Water Removal)
A specialized solution for the oil and gas and utility sectors. This cartridge holds a minimum of 148 ounces of water per 16-cell stack, effectively removing free and emulsified water from oils.
Best for: Transformer oils, insulating oils, and silicones.
Key Benefits for Your Process
Double O-Ring configuration ensures a secure seal for critical applications.
Reliability and Safety
The closed housing system protects operators from exposure to volatile fluids and protects the product from environmental contamination. The rigid core structure allows for easy handling and disposal.
Economic Efficiency
Lenticular modules are often more cost-effective than disposable cartridges for high-load streams and offer a smaller footprint than large filter presses.
Applications
- Botanical Extraction: Removal of waxes, lipids, and fine particulates from ethanol or CO2 extracts.
- Distilled Spirits: Polishing filtration to remove haze and improve clarity without stripping flavor.
- Chemicals & Utilities: Reconditioning dielectric fluids and filtering solvents.
- Cosmetics: Clarification of perfumes, lotions, and oils.
