ErtelAlsop Pak Lenticular Filters: Comprehensive Product Overview

Advanced Depth Filtration for Critical Applications

Purecowater is proud to offer ErtelAlsop Pak® Lenticular Filters, a premium solution for depth filtration needs across pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and industrial applications. These lenticular cartridges combine the benefits of traditional depth filter sheets with the convenience of a closed cartridge system, providing superior solids retention, scalability, and ease of use.

Whether you are clarifying botanical extracts, filtering distilled spirits, or processing biopharmaceuticals, the ErtelAlsop Pak® series offers a versatile and robust filtration platform.

ErtelAlsop Pak Lenticular Filter Group

The ErtelAlsop Pak® family of lenticular depth filter modules.

What is a Lenticular Filter?

A lenticular filter module consists of stacked filter cells assembled into a single cartridge unit. Each cell is comprised of two depth filter sheets sealed at the edges, with an internal drainage plate that directs the filtrate to the central core.

This design maximizes the effective filtration area within a compact footprint. Unlike surface filters, these depth modules retain contaminants throughout the thickness of the media, allowing for:

  • High Solids Loading: Capable of holding significant amounts of particulate before fouling.
  • Zeta Potential: Positively charged media helps capture negatively charged sub-micronic particles (like bacteria and endotoxins) that are smaller than the pore rating.
  • Mechanical Stability: The rigid structure prevents media migration and bypass.

Product Variants and Series

ErtelAlsop manufactures several variations of the Pak® cartridge to suit specific chemical capabilities and industry requirements. Below is a comparison of the primary series available through Purecowater.

Series Media Composition Primary Application
Zeta-Pak® Cellulose, Diatomaceous Earth (DE), Resin General purpose clarification, haze removal, botanical extracts (winterization). The “workhorse” of the line.
Bio-Pak® Pharmaceutical Grade Media (Validaed) Critical pharmaceutical and biotech applications. Double O-ring seal to ensure zero bypass.
Disc-Pak® 100% AlphaMedia Cellulose (No resin/binders) Applications sensitive to extractables, syrups, beverages, and organic solvents.
ZetaDri-Pak® Water-absorbing Media Removal of free and emulsified water from oils (transformer oils, lubricating oils).
MicroClear® Carbon-impregnated Cellulose Color reduction, odor removal, and decolorization without handling loose carbon powder.

Feature Highlight: Double O-Ring Seal

While many lenticular filters utilize a flat gasket connection that requires a tightening device (center post), the Bio-Pak® and optional configurations for other series feature a Double O-Ring end cap. This plug-in design simplifies installation and ensures a positive seal, critical for preventing fluid bypass in high-value streams.

Key Applications

The versatility of the Pak Lenticular design makes it suitable for a wide array of industries. By enclosing the process in a housing, users benefit from a closed-loop system, preventing leakage and reducing exposure to the atmosphere—crucial for alcohol-based extraction or sterile processes.

  • Botanical Extraction: Removal of waxes, lipids, and fine particulates from ethanol or hydrocarbon extracts (winterization).
  • Distilled Spirits: Haze removal and polishing for shelf-stable clarity without stripping flavor.
  • Pharmaceuticals: Clarification of cell cultures, vaccines, and plasma fractionation.
  • Food & Beverage: Filtration of syrups, flavorings, juices, and edible oils.
  • Utilities & Power: Conditioning of insulating oils and transformer fluids using the ZetaDri-Pak.
