ErtelAlsop Laboratory Cylinder Filters

Precision Scale-Up and Filtration Trials

For industries relying on depth filtration—whether in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food and beverage, or chemical processing—accurate bench-scale testing is critical for operational success. ErtelAlsop Laboratory Cylinder Filters are engineered specifically to bridge the gap between R&D trials and full-scale production.

As a distributor for ErtelAlsop, Purecowater provides these high-precision laboratory units to help facilities conduct filtration trials, sizing, and scalability studies with confidence. These filters allow operators to evaluate flow rates, throughput, and media efficiency using small liquid volumes before committing to large production runs.

Product Overview

ErtelAlsop’s Cylinder Laboratory Filters are versatile depth filtration units constructed primarily of Type 316L Stainless Steel or borosilicate glass (Pyrex®). They are designed to simulate production-scale filtration parameters in a laboratory setting.

The units utilize an O-Ring seal design, offering the flexibility to test a wide variety of filter media compositions and thicknesses without bypass. This versatility ensures that the results obtained in the lab are directly translatable to larger plate and frame or lenticular housing systems.

Key Features

  • Material Construction: Available in 316L Stainless Steel for high-pressure applications (up to 60 PSIG) or protected Pyrex® glass for visual observation (up to 30 PSIG).
  • Thermal Control: Stainless steel cylinders can be furnished with optional heating or cooling jackets to maintain precise temperature control during trials.
  • Multi-Stage Filtration: An optional dividing flange allows for double filtration stages within a single unit, enabling users to test multi-grade filtration in one pass.
  • Flow Flexibility: Liquid can be moved through the media using constant flow pumps, compressed air, or inert gas.

The “T” Series: 4T, 10T, 21T, and 43T

The “T” Series allows for direct scalability. Starting from the ultra-compact 4T to the larger 43T, these units cover a volume range from 250 ml to 8 liters, making them suitable for everything from initial feasibility batches to pilot-scale processing.

4T Series

The 4T is the entry-level unit for small-volume trials. It is ideal for testing expensive fluids or when only small sample quantities are available.

10T, 21T and 43T Series

As requirements grow, the 10T, 21T, and 43T offer progressively larger surface areas and volumes. These are essential for scalability studies where determining the filter capacity per unit area is required to size full-scale equipment accurately.

The 21T Series provides 3.7 Liters of volume for intermediate pilot studies.

50P Series: Polycarbonate Options

For applications where stainless steel is not required or where lightweight portability is a priority, the Model 50P is constructed of high-strength polycarbonate. It is designed for filterability and scale-up studies with a pressure limit of 30 PSIG.

  • Visibility: Clear polycarbonate allows for visual monitoring of the cake formation and filtration process.
  • Portability: Lightweight design is easy to transport between verify labs or field sites.
  • Optimization Kit: Available as an Application Optimization Kit (AOK), which includes a storage case and select grades of filter media.

Why Choose ErtelAlsop Cylinder Filters?

Scalability: The primary advantage of these laboratory filters is the correlation they provide to production-scale equipment. Data gathered regarding flow rates per square centimeter, pressure drops, and throughput can be linearly scaled to large plate and frame presses or lenticular cartridge housings.

Versatility: Whether you are filtering pharmaceutical actives, cosmetics, food and beverage products, or industrial chemicals, the ability to switch between 316L SS and Pyrex, apply heating or cooling, and use any flat filter media makes these units indispensable for process engineers.

Sanitary Design: For critical applications, models are available with sanitary connections and crevice-free designs to ensure product purity and ease of cleaning.
