Avantech EDM-Series Electrodeionization System

For industrial applications requiring the highest standards of water purity, the Avantech EDM-Series Electrodeionization System stands as a premier solution. As a chemical-free polishing technology, this system is designed to replace traditional mixed-bed deionization, offering a continuous, cost-effective, and environmentally safe method for producing ultrapure water.

At Purecowater, we specialize in comprehensive filtration and engineered solutions. The Avantech EDM-Series integrates advanced ion-exchange membranes and resin technology to deliver consistent water quality for power generation, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and microelectronics.

What is the Avantech EDM-Series?

The Avantech EDM-Series is a modular electrodeionization (EDI) system. It is situated downstream of a Reverse Osmosis (RO) unit to “polish” the permeate, removing residual ionized species that RO membranes cannot catch. Unlike conventional resin tanks that require downtime for acid/caustic regeneration, the EDM-Series uses electricity to continuously regenerate its internal resin beds.

How It Works

The process utilizes a combination of semi-permeable membrane media and ion-exchange resins sandwiched between two electrodes (anode and cathode). When a DC electrical potential is applied:

  • Ion Migration: Dissolved ions (impurities) are attracted to their respective electrodes—positive ions (cations) move toward the cathode, and negative ions (anions) move toward the anode.
  • Separation: Ion-selective membranes allow these ions to pass into a concentrate stream while blocking water molecules, effectively trapping the impurities and flushing them away.
  • Continuous Regeneration: The electric current splits water molecules into H+ and OH- ions, which continuously regenerate the resin beads. This eliminates the need for chemical regeneration cycles.

Key Advantages of the EDM-Series

Figure 1: The modular design of the Avantech EDM-Series allows for scalable flow rates and easy integration.
Feature Benefit
Chemical-Free Operation Eliminates the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous acids and caustic soda.
Consistent Purity Produces water consistently up to 18.2 MΩ-cm, avoiding the quality fluctuations seen in batch mixed-bed resin exhaustion.
Compact Footprint Modular stack design occupies significantly less space than complex ion-exchange vessel trains.
Low Operating Cost Low energy consumption and no chemical costs result in a rapid ROI.

This system is particularly effective at removing weakly ionized species such as Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Silica, and Boron, which are critical contaminants to control in high-pressure boilers and semiconductor washing.

Technical Specifications

The EDM-Series is engineered for robust performance and flexibility. Below are standard operating parameters for the series.

Target Applications

The Avantech EDM-Series is built to serve industries where water purity is non-negotiable:

  • Power Generation: Boiler feed water for high-pressure steam turbines.
  • Pharmaceuticals/Biotech: USP Purified Water and WFI (Water for Injection) systems.
  • Microelectronics: Semiconductor rinsing and component manufacturing.
  • Laboratories: Centralized ultrapure water distribution.
