ErtelAlsop Pak® Lenticular Filters: High-Efficiency Depth Filtration Modules

Introduction to ErtelAlsop Pak® Lenticular Filters

In the world of industrial liquid filtration, efficiency and fluid integrity are paramount. One of the most effective solutions for depth filtration is the ErtelAlsop Pak® Lenticular Filter. Designed as a superior alternative to traditional plate and frame filters, these lenticular modules offer a totally enclosed, leak-free environment that simplifies operations while maximizing particle retention.

As a distributor for premium filtration solutions, Purecowater is proud to offer the complete line of ErtelAlsop Pak® cartridges. Whether you are dealing with pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food and beverage, or industrial chemicals, the Pak® series provides the versatility and reliability needed for critical applications.

What is a Lenticular Filter?

A “Lenticular” filter gets its name from the shape of its sub-components, which resemble a double convex lens. The module consists of stacked filter cells (discs). Each cell is constructed from a pair of depth filter sheets (like MicroMedia® or AlphaMedia®) with their edges sealed using a patented polypropylene process.

These cells are stacked on a central core and compressed to form a single, robust cartridge. This design allows for:

  • High Solids Loading: The depth media structure captures particles throughout the thickness of the pad, not just on the surface.
  • Scalability: Modules come in 12-inch and 16-inch diameters with varying cell counts (5 to 18 cells) to match flow rate requirements.
  • Ease of Use: Unlike loose filter sheets, the cartridge format allows for rapid change-outs, reducing downtime significantly.

Key Series and Configurations

ErtelAlsop offers several distinct media formulations to address specific chemical compatibilities and filtration goals. Below are the two most prominent series available.

1. Zeta-Pak® Series

The Zeta-Pak® is the workhorse of the ErtelAlsop line. It utilizes Micro-Media®, which contains cellulose, diatomaceous earth (DE) or Perlite, and a wet-strength resin. This combination creates a matrix with a positive Zeta potential, which is highly effective at attracting and holding negatively charged contaminants like bacteria and hazes.

2. Disc-Pak® Series

The Disc-Pak® is designed for applications where inorganic filter aids (like DE) or resins are not desired. It uses 100% cellulose AlphaMedia®. This is ideal for light to medium viscosity liquids such as dielectric oils, perfumes, and certain syrups where preserving the purity of active ingredients is critical.

Applications and Industries

The versatility of the Pak® cartridges makes them suitable for a wide array of markets. Because the system is enclosed, it is particularly favored in industries where hygiene and minimal product loss are critical.

Food & Beverage

Used for the polishing of distilled spirits, removal of haze in wines/beers, and filtration of sugar syrups. The Zeta-Pak® effectively removes fine particulates and yeast.

Pharmaceuticals & Cosmetics

Essential for clarifying botanical extracts, fragrances, and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The enclosed housing ensures a sanitary environment compliant with GMP standards.

Industrial & Chemical

Ideal for filtering lubricating oils, dielectric oils, and removing carbon fines. The Disc-Pak® is often employed here to prevent contamination from filter aids.

Benefits Over Traditional Filtration

Why should you switch to or maintain a Lenticular Pak® system?

  1. Reduced Product Loss: The enclosed housing design minimizes drip loss compared to open plate and frame presses.
  2. Operator Safety: Hazardous liquid/vapor exposure is significantly reduced.
  3. Quick Change-Outs: Swapping a cartridge takes a fraction of the time required to redress a filter press, increasing overall plant productivity.
  4. Consistency: Factory-assembled cartridges ensure consistent compression and sealing, reducing the risk of bypass.
