ErtelAlsop Pak® Lenticular Filters: High-Efficiency Depth Filtration

Advanced Depth Filtration with ErtelAlsop Pak® Cartridges

For industries requiring high-performance solid-liquid separation, ErtelAlsop Pak® Lenticular Filters represent the gold standard in depth filtration technology. As a distributor for top-tier filtration solutions, Purecowater is proud to offer these versatile modules designed to resolve complex contamination challenges.

The ErtelAlsop Pak® (also known as a lenticular module) simplifies the depth filtration process. Originally developed to replace cumbersome plate and frame filter presses, the lenticular design offers a totally enclosed, sanitary, and easy-to-handle solution without sacrificing the high solids-loading capacity of traditional depth media.

What are ErtelAlsop Pak® Lenticular Filters?

These cartridges consist of distinct “cells” stacked on a central core. Each cell is constructed from two discs of depth filter media (such as MicroMedia® or AlphaMedia®) sealed at the edges using a patented process. This construction creates a unit that resembles a stack of double convex lenses—hence the name “lenticular.”

The resulting module is robust, self-supporting, and designed to fit into sealed housings. This “Pak” design eliminates the leakage and exposure issues often associated with open plate and frame assemblies, making it ideal for critical applications in pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, and chemical processing.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Closed System Design: The filter modules operate inside a sealed pressure vessel (housing), preventing atmospheric contact, leakage, and product loss. This is crucial for handling solvents, hazardous fluids, or sanitary products.
  • High Solids Loading: The depth media matrix traps particles throughout its thickness, not just on the surface, offering superior retention and longer service life compared to surface filters.
  • Rapid Change-Out: Swapping out a spent Pak® takes a fraction of the time required to dress a plate and frame press, significantly reducing downtime and labor costs.
  • Scalability: Available in industry-standard 12-inch and 16-inch diameters with various cell counts to match your flow rate and throughput requirements.

Technical Specifications

ErtelAlsop Pak® filters are highly customizable. From the type of media (cellulose, diatomaceous earth, perlite, or carbon) to the connection style, these filters can be tailored to specific process conditions.

Available Media Grades

Choosing the right media is essential for optimal filtration performance. ErtelAlsop offers three primary series compatible with the Pak® format:

  • AlphaMedia®: Premium cellulose depth media ideal for general haze removal and coarse filtration. It contains no inorganic aids like DE.
  • MicroMedia® / XL Series: Formulated with cellulose and filter aids (Diatomaceous Earth or Perlite) to create a porous cake matrix for high-efficiency haze removal and fine particle retention.
  • MicroClear®: Impregnated with activated carbon, these modules are designed for adsorption applications, removing color, odor, and impurities without the mess of loose carbon powder.

Applications

The versatility of the Pak® lends itself to a wide array of industries. Common use cases include:

Industry Application
Distilled Spirits Haze removal, chill filtration, and activated carbon treatment for flavor profiling.
Pharmaceuticals API purification, solvent filtration, and catalyst removal (using carbon Paks).
Food & Beverage Processing syrups, flavorings, edible oils, and clarifying juices.
Chemicals Polishing dielectric oils, resins, varnishes, and industrial processing fluids.
Botanical Extracts Efficient removal of lipids and waxes (winterization) with high solvent compatibility.
