ErtelAlsop Pak® Lenticular Filters: Advanced Depth Filtration Solutions

High-Efficiency Depth Filtration for Critical Applications

At Purecowater, we understand that precision and reliability are paramount in industrial liquid filtration. We are proud to distribute ErtelAlsop Pak® Lenticular Filters, a premier solution for depth filtration needs. Designed to combine the superior filtration mechanics of traditional plate and frame machinery with the convenience of a totally enclosed cartridge system, these filters are the industry standard for pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, and chemical processing.

ErtelAlsop Pak Lenticular Filter Module
The ErtelAlsop Pak® offers high surface area in a compact, leak-free modular design.

What is a Lenticular Filter?

The lenticular filter module (often called a “Pak” or cartridge) was originally improved upon by ErtelAlsop engineers to solve the leakage and maintenance issues associated with open plate and frame filter presses. A lenticular cartridge consists of multiple depth filter cells stacked on a central core. This design places a large amount of filtration surface area into a compact, vertical footprint.

The Pak® Lenticular Cartridges are housed in a sealed vessel, ensuring zero fluid loss and protecting the product from external contamination. This makes them significantly more operator-friendly and sanitary compared to older filtration methods.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Enclosed System: Prevents oxidation and contamination; ideal for volatile or high-value fluids (e.g., distilled spirits, essential oils).
  • Micro-Media® Technology: Modules are manufactured using ErtelAlsop’s proprietary Micro-Media®, a blend of cellulose, diatomaceous earth (DE), and wet-strength resins.
  • Zeta Potential: The media possesses a net positive charge (Zeta Potential), allowing it to electrokinetically capture negatively charged contaminants (like bacteria and haze colloids) that are smaller than the micron rating of the filter.
  • Rapid Change-Out: Changing a module takes minutes compared to the hours often required to dress a plate and frame press.
  • Scalability: Available in 12-inch and 16-inch diameters with various cell counts to match flow rate requirements.

Technical Specifications

The ErtelAlsop Pak® series is versatile, available in various micron ratings and configurations to fit existing housings.

Feature Specification
Filter Media Type Micro-Media® (Cellulose, DE/Perlite, Resin)
Micron Ratings 0.25 µm – 15.0 µm (Nominal)
Diameters Available 12-inch, 16-inch
Core Material Polypropylene (Standard)
Gasket Material EPDM (Standard)
End Cap Configuration Flat Gasket or Double O-Ring (DOE/SOE)
Cell Count Typically 16 cells per module (customizable)

Target Applications

Because of their high solids loading capacity and haze removal capabilities, Pak® filters are the “workhorse” in several industries.

Industry Application
Botanical Extraction Dewaxing and winterization. The DE content effectively removes waxes and lipids from ethanol extracts without affecting flavor profiles.
Distilled Spirits Chill haze removal and polishing filtration for whiskey, vodka, and gin to ensure optical clarity.
Pharmaceuticals Clarification of APIs (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) and syrups; protection of downstream membrane filters.
Chemicals & Utilities Removal of carbon fines, catalyst recovery, and general particulate reduction in insulating oils.

Why Choose the Zeta-Pak®?

Within the product line, the Zeta-Pak® is particularly notable for critical applications. It offers the greatest retention efficiencies due to its electrokinetic adsorption properties. While mechanical filtration sieves out particles based on size, the Zeta-Pak® attracts ultra-fine particles that might otherwise pass through, making it ideal for sterilization pre-filtration and haze removal.

Whether you need to upgrade from a plate and frame press or replace existing modules, Purecowater can specify the correct ErtelAlsop solution for your process.
