ErtelAlsop Pak Lenticular Filters: Advanced Depth Filtration Modules

High-Performance Depth Filtration Solutions

ErtelAlsop Pak® Lenticular Filters, also known as depth lenticular filter modules, provide a robust solution for industries requiring high-efficiency particle retention and solids loading. Designed as a totally enclosed alternative to traditional plate and frame filters, these modules combine the superior filtration mechanics of depth media with the convenience and safety of a cartridge format.

At Purecowater, we supply these advanced filtration systems to help operators in pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and chemical sectors achieve pristine clarity and process stability.

The Modern Alternative to Plate and Frame Filters

The lenticular format was originally invented by Alsop Engineering. A “Pak” consists of essentially the same high-quality depth filter media used in plate and frame presses but assembled into a pre-compressed, stacked module. This design offers distinct advantages:

  • Closed System: Eliminates leakage and exposure to the atmosphere, crucial for sanitary applications and hazardous fluids.
  • Rapid Change-Out: Modules can be replaced in a fraction of the time required to dress a plate and frame press, significantly reducing downtime.
  • Scalability: Available in 12-inch and 16-inch diameters with varying cell counts (5 to 18 cells) to match flow rate requirements.

Key Features and Media Technologies

ErtelAlsop Pak cartridges utilize a range of proprietary media to target specific filtration needs. The edges of the media sheets are sealed using a patented polypropylene process, ensuring structural integrity and preventing bypass.

Media Type Description Primary Applications
MicroMedia® Cellulose mixed with high-performance filter aids (Diatomaceous Earth or Perlite). Clarification, haze removal, and retention of ultra-fine particles (0.25 to 15 microns).
AlphaMedia® 100% Cellulose (No resins, binders, or inorganic filter aids). Pharmaceuticals, dielectric oils, and cosmetic applications where media purity is paramount.
MicroClear® Activated Carbon impregnated media. Decolorization, odor removal, and organic contaminant adsorption without the mess of bulk carbon.

Technical Specifications

The Pak Lenticular Filters are versatile and compatible with a wide range of housings, including vertical and horizontal orientations. They are designed to fit virtually any standard lenticular housing through the availability of distinct end-cap configurations.

  • Diameters: 12” (30.5 cm) and 16” (40.6 cm)
  • Micron Ratings: Nominal retention from 0.25 µm to 15 µm
  • End Configurations: Flat Gasket or Double O-Ring (fin end)
  • Core Material: Polypropylene
  • Gasket Material: EPDM (Standard), Viton, Silicone available
  • Surface Area: High surface area design due to stacked lenticular cell construction

Applications by Industry

Thanks to their high solids loading capacity and sub-micron retention capabilities, ErtelAlsop Pak Filters are utilized across diverse sectors:

Food & Beverage

Used extensively for the filtration of distilled spirits, syrups, and wine. The Zeta-Pak® series is particularly effective for removing chill haze and polishing liquids prior to bottling.

Pharmaceuticals & Life Sciences

Critical for the clarification of broths, removal of lipids and waxes in botanical extracts, and general particulate reduction in APIs. The enclosed housing design ensures Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliance.

Chemicals & Industrial

Ideal for filtering varnishes, resins, inks, and dielectric oils. The robust construction allows for handling viscous fluids while maintaining flow rates.

Botanical Extraction

Specifically favored for “winterization” processes where waxes, lipids, and fats must be removed from ethanol extracts at low temperatures.

Why Choose ErtelAlsop Pak Filters?

Operators “Love our Pak® Cartridges” because they simplify the filtration process without compromising on quality. The complex matrix of fibers in the depth media provides a tortuous path for fluid, trapping contaminants throughout the depth of the sheet, not just on the surface. This results in cleaner filtrate and longer service life compared to standard surface filters.
